Bunbury is top performing Regional Club at State Championships

A team of 12 swimmers from the Bunbury Swimming Club had a very successful campaign at the SunSmart State Open and Age Long Course Championships last week winning the Country Points Trophy for the top performing Regional Club.

Over 500 swimmers from 53 clubs around the State took part in the event including Rio Olympians Brianna Throssell and James Roberts and the Singapore National Swim Team.

Jye Jensen (14) was a standout performer for Bunbury winning gold in the 200m backstroke and 200m butterfly, silver in the 200m and 400m individual medley and bronze in the 100m backstroke.

Team mate Kyle Lee (14) also had an impressive meet winning silver in the 200m butterfly and bronze in the 400m freestyle and individual medley.

Big sister Courtney Lee (16) won gold in the 400m individual medley, silver in the 200m individual medley and bronze in the 100m and 200m backstroke.

Club Captain Tahlia Jensen (17) won silver in the 800m freestyle and bronze in the 400m freestyle and 200m individual medley.

Ross Rann (15) won bronze in the 100m and 200m backstroke and Sam Ellis (12) won bronze in the 13 years and under 200m butterfly.

Other swimmers to represent the Club at the meet included Maddison Stewart, Kaiden Richings, Amy Duncan, Georgia Saffy, Lexie Edwards and Max Coulter.

Overall, the team won 18 state championship medals (3 Gold, 5 Silver and 10 Bronze) and set 41 new personal best times.

Performance Coach Nick Ciffolilli said his swimmers have been training hard and are very supportive of each other as they strive for excellence. Their results last week are proof that there is no substitute for hard work.
