Our last time trial session for the year was extremely busy with the largest swimmer turn out for the season, two relays, a cup final and two cup heats. A big thank-you to all our parent helpers without whom the night would not run smoothly.
The night began with the Ciffolilli Shield Relay. The Yellow team, led by Indi Williams, was victorious for the first time and broke the Green Team’s three in a row winning streak.
The Wilson Cup 100m Backstroke final quickly followed with Kaiden Richings coming home in a strong finish and demonstrating why he is the King of Backstroke. The winner will be announced at the club presentation evening.
There were some great performances by Matilda Richings and Samuel Ellis who both improved their PBs in every event. Yulana Horrobin also had a great night improving both her 50m breaststroke and freestyle times by over 8 seconds and Alex Saffy took over 9 seconds off is 100m breaststroke time.
Our final race of the night was the novelty relay. With the Performance Squad limited to lifesaving backstroke, sidestroke and kickboard, 9 and under swimmers receiving a boost with fins and the Marshaller and Chief Handicapper making up the rules on the spot it was surprising the actual race went quite smoothly. Well done relay captains! Raji Madigasekara demonstrated his talent with the kickboard, Maddi Stewart demonstrated her team spirit by running up and down the length of the pool swapping a single set of fins between team members and who could forget the four fairies. Unfortunately, the result is open to conjecture with race officials seeking advice from FINA as to whether fairy tutus constitute sanctioned racewear. Our interim winners were the Blue Team led by Amber Ramage. Each team member received a non-coach approved Christmas donut.
Our next time trial evening will be Friday, 5th February and entries will be open from Wednesday, 27th January.
Good luck to all the Country Championship swimmers and thank-you for a great night.
