2016 SunSmart Country Championships

The 2016 SunSmart Country Championships were held last weekend at HBF Stadium in Perth and the Bunbury Swimming Club was represented strongly with 29 swimmers. The team consisted of Zoe Buck, Guy Castieau, Carly Chambers, Daniel Coleman, Max Coulter, Jack Doust, Amy Duncan, Meg Eichner, Noah Eichner, Sam Ellis, Tom Ellis, Hannah Hunt, Joshua Hunt, Jye Jensen, Tahlia Jensen, Amity Parsons, Chayse Parsons, Rori Parsons, Kaidden Richings, Alex Saffy, Arrabella Stewart,Charli Stewart, Maddie Stewart, Simona Vychytilova, Indie Williams, Liam Williams, Taylor Williams and Coaches Nick Ciffolilli, Mickie Castieau and Stephen Saffy. The Championships attracted 32 regional clubs with a total of 337 swimmers who travelled from as far as Exmouth, Tom Price and Esperance. It was a long and extremely ‘eventful’ trip to Perth for everyone, due to the bushfires however, that did not deter our swimmers….or parents! The Championships gave the BSC swimmers a chance to race against the best competition country WA has to offer and for a few swimmers, it was their first Country Champs. The Club managed to achieve the most amount of PB’s out of all the Clubs so it was a huge effort. The relays started on the Friday night with our Women’s 200m Medley team taking home the Bronze with our 10 & under boy’s team winning Bronze in the 200m Medley and Silver in the Freestyle relay The boy’s 14 & under team took home Gold in the 200m Medley and the 200m Freestyle relays and the 14 & under girls 200m Freestyle team swam a fantastic race to finish 5th and just missed out on the Bronze in the 200m Medley relay. There were a few BSC swimmers taking to the HBF pool for the first time. Jack Doust being one of them, and taking it all in stride, took home 2 relay medals. There were plenty of medals won, PB’s smashed and stand out performances. It was an inspiring effort form all of our athletes, WELL DONE!
