Bunbury Defend Country Pennant Title

Congratulations to the 41 swimmers who travelled to Mandurah on the weekend and helped the Club to win the A Grade Pennant at Country Pennants for the second year in a row.

We had some very tough competition in Peel Aquatic Swimming Club who were leading after the first day of events by 5 points. However the Bunbury team finished very strongly on the second day of competition to win the overall points score by the small margin of 8.5 points. This made for a very exciting weekend of competition for everyone involved!

Each and every swimmer on the team performed exceptionally well. You were all determined and very supportive of each other and we are all very proud of the way in which you conducted yourselves.

A massive thank you to the entire coaching team who have all worked hard to prepare our swimmers for the meet. The Country Pennants team was comprised of swimmers from all of our training squads so all of our coaches have played a big part in the team’s success on the weekend.

Besides winning the Overall ‘A’ Grade Pennant, we also had a number of individual swimmers who excelled over the weekend and a number of them were recognised during the final presentation ceremony.

Alice Johnson was awarded the Closest to State Record trophy for her swim in the Girls 14 years and under 100m freestyle event.

The team also set a number of new Country Pennant Meet Records:

  • Amity Parsons, Lexie Edwards, Amy Duncan and Alice Johnson combined to set a new meet record in the Girls 14 years and under 200m freestyle relay

  • Rori Parsons, Maddison Stewart, Amity Parsons and Alice Johnson combined to set a new meet record in the Girls 16 years and under 200m freestyle relay

  • Courtney Lee, Alice Johnson, Rori Parsons and Tahlia Jensen combined to set a new meet record in the Women Open 200m freestyle relay

  • Courtney Lee also set a new meet record in the Women’s Open 100m freestyle.

There were a number of new state qualifying times achieved and 41 personal best times set too. Overall, we couldn’t have wished for a better result. WELL DONE EVERYONE – GREAT TEAM EFFORT!!
